Encourage Effort
Celebrate effort, courage, teamwork and improvement. Encourage players to make their own decisions on the field rather than directing every play from the sideline.
Everything families need to support a positive, safe and development-focused soccer experience.
Helpful Information
Welcome to North York Hearts. Parents and guardians are essential partners in creating an environment where children feel safe, included, challenged and excited to return. This handbook explains what families can expect from the club and what we ask from families throughout the season.
Our shared goal is simple: put the player’s enjoyment, belonging, learning and well-being first. By working together, communicating respectfully and supporting development over results, we can give every child the opportunity to enjoy soccer and grow with confidence.

Celebrate effort, courage, teamwork and improvement. Encourage players to make their own decisions on the field rather than directing every play from the sideline.

Keep encouragement positive for all players, regardless of the score. Help create an environment where children feel comfortable learning, making mistakes and trying again.

Respect coaches, teammates, opponents, match officials, volunteers and other families. Questions or concerns should always be raised calmly and through the appropriate club communication process.
Have a question about your child’s program, schedule or club experience? Our team is here to help you find the right information and connect with the appropriate person.
Why Hearts Is Different
A positive soccer experience depends on everyone working together. Families play an important role in keeping players prepared, supported and safe throughout the season.
Helpful Information
Players are placed in teams or training groups based on factors such as age, program level, development needs, available space and the structure of the specific program. Our goal is to create an appropriate environment where every player can learn, participate and enjoy the game.
Playing opportunities are managed according to the objectives and level of each program. At development-focused levels, the club prioritizes meaningful participation and player development. Competitive programs may also consider attendance, readiness, position, training performance and match requirements.
Player safety comes first. Sessions may be delayed, relocated or cancelled because of severe weather, unsafe field conditions or facility closures. Families will be notified through the club’s official team communication platform whenever possible.
Registration fees vary by program and may cover items such as coaching, field or facility rental, league fees, administration, equipment and other program-related costs. Any items not included in the registration fee will be clearly communicated before or during registration.
North York Hearts wants soccer to remain accessible to families in our community. Families who may require financial assistance should contact the club privately to learn about available support programs, eligibility requirements and application procedures.
Players showing signs of injury or concussion should be removed from activity and assessed appropriately. Parents or guardians must inform the club of relevant medical information and follow the club’s concussion and return-to-play requirements before the player resumes participation.
Safety and child-protection concerns should be reported immediately through the club’s Report a Concern process. Reports are handled as seriously, respectfully and confidentially as possible in accordance with club policies.
Photos and videos should only be taken and shared in accordance with the club’s privacy, consent and photography policies. Families should respect the privacy preferences of other players and avoid posting content that could identify or negatively affect another child without appropriate permission.
