North York Hearts Soccer Club was formed in January 1990 through the merger of Armourdale and Willowdale Blues Soccer Clubs, continuing a central North York soccer tradition that began in the winter of 1962–63.
Who We Are
The early community clubs included Fisherville, Lansing Lancers and Northmount Monarchs. Fisherville later became Armourdale. Armourdale and Willowdale Blues enjoyed success through the 1970s, while changing demographics and organizational pressures in the 1980s led club leaders to explore a stronger combined organization. Discussions began in 1987, formal meetings followed after the 1989 season, and the Hearts were formed within three months.
The club’s central home is the North York Civic Soccer Fields and Esther Shiner Stadium at the northwest corner of Bathurst Street and Finch Avenue West. The facility was originally developed by Armourdale Soccer Club in the late 1960s and early 1970s with support from the former City of North York and Ontario Hydro.
