About Game Day Guide

A good game day begins before kickoff. Checking the schedule, arriving prepared and knowing what to expect helps players focus on competing, learning and enjoying the game.

North York Hearts asks players, families and team officials to work together to create a calm and respectful match-day environment. From preparation at home to post-game recovery, small actions can make a big difference to every player’s experience.

Come Prepared

Check the official schedule before leaving home and pack everything needed for the match, including the complete uniform, shin guards, correct footwear, labelled water, weather-appropriate layers and any approved medication.

Arrive Ready

Players should normally arrive 30 minutes before kickoff unless the coach provides a different time. Check in with the team staff and report any illness, injury, medication need or concussion concern before warm-up begins.

Keep It Positive

Players should respect teammates, opponents and officials, while parents remain in designated spectator areas and provide positive encouragement. Let the players play and the coaches coach.

Why Hearts Is Different

More Than Game Day

Match day is an opportunity for players to apply what they have learned while developing confidence, resilience, teamwork and respect for the game.

  • Recheck the official schedule for kickoff time, field location, parking information and last-minute changes.
  • Eat a familiar pre-match meal or snack, hydrate normally and avoid unfamiliar supplements or energy drinks.
  • Remove jewellery and other unsafe items before playing and never share water bottles.
  • Follow instructions from coaches and officials and keep technical areas clear for designated team staff.
  • If a concussion is suspected, the player must be removed from play immediately—when in doubt, sit them out.
  • After the match, cool down, collect equipment, leave the area tidy and thank officials and opponents.
